| OraSure Technologies Pledges Support For National Black HIV/AIDS ...
OraSure Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:OSUR), the market leader in oral fluid diagnostics, today announced its support of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), through the distribution of complimentary OraQuick ADVANCE® Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test kits and educational materials to more than 25 HIV testing sites across the country, including state and city public health departments and community-based organizations.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), even though blacks account for approximately 13% of the U.S. population, they account for about half (49%) of the people who get HIV and AIDS. HIV/AIDS continues to be a leading cause of death among African Americans in the United States according to the CDC.
"OraSure is committed to combating HIV/AIDS in the African American community and we are proud to support National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day," said Douglas A.

Have you noticed that the community is in a red, white and blue mood these days? All of the retailers are having patriotic-themed sales and commercials touting patriotism are all of the airwaves. Maybe its because Presidents Day was this weekor because the Ohio primary is getting closer, or because this is an election year. When you have a child in the military, EVERY day is a Red, White and Blue kind of day, isnt it? Patriotism isnt something we don when its in fashion or convenientwe live, eat, sleep and breathe it every minute of every day. Have you ever asked yourself what made my child enlist in the military? What was it that caused our children to selflessly put themselves in harms way to defend the American way of life? Why did they feel a calling, when so many of their peers only worry about what party theyre going to Saturday night? Does it, in fact, have anything to do with how we raised them? I honestly dont know.
We were always in with a chance
Any person, club, organisation or whatever be it in sport or business plays the game to WIN, otherwise why bother. The reason for no relegation this year is that super league franchises are up for grabs next season and if any club does not meet or exceed the franchise criteria they will be out on their ear regardless of where they finish in the table. Clubs who do not reach the minimum criteria off the pitch, note off the pitch, have everything to lose. This means they have to operate as a viable business entity with correct business development plans in place, suitable and safe stadia, local development systems in operation and community programmes established. This has taken a long time to come but in my opinion this takes RL to the next level. Still behind our friends in Oz but this is a positive step in the right direction.

When you're convinced you're going to travel to other worlds, science fiction signifies something different to you than the Tales of the Brothers Grimm. And when you look back you realize that the world you live in is science fiction, as seen from the perspective of the past. (But then, the past is another country, isn't it?) Asking me about the guiding purpose of science fiction is a bit like asking a fish about the guiding purpose of the sea. I'd have to say that first and foremost, SF is fiction. It's confabulation. It's the stories we tell each other for amusement and social bonding. I'm skeptical about assigning purpose to an artistic phenomenon, because it's something that, at bottom, we do for fun and communication. (When used for communication it may be used with serious intent, but that's far from being the main purpose of most SF.) Having said that, I do believe it's possible to insert interesting messages in fiction, and because fiction is viewed as a recreational activity this makes it possible to get them across to people who might not otherwise be receptive.
